At VUK, our approach is to weave sustainability into the core of all our decision making. From beginning to end, we ensure that our entire supply chain is created with sustainable and ethical intention. We are not aiming to be perfect, our goal is to make mindful choices every step of the way. Take a look at our current initiatives!

Making sustainable swimwear must start with the fabric itself. All of our fabric is chosen with the intention to be durable and sustainable. We use fabric that is composed of 78% ECONYL® regenerated nylon which is made by recovering nylon waste - such as fishing nets, fabric scraps from mills and carpets destined for landfill – and turning it into standard quality nylon yarn for the fashion and interior industries. ECONYL® regenerated nylon has the potential to be recycled infinitely, without ever losing its quality. In the future we aim to source fabric that is 100% ECONYL® regenerated nylon. You can read more about their process here:

Aside from swimwear, all fabrics chosen at VUK will be centred around sustainability.

Just like in 2021, for 2022 VUK will be operating on a made-to-order basis for our swimwear. The benefits of made-to-order is that we will cut and sew your items once they are ordered, only making what is needed. This year we will be working with a very talented seamstress located right here in Toronto. We will compile weekly orders from Monday- Sunday, which we will then place every Monday. This eliminates excessive inventory that may not get sold, and reduces material waste and labour put into production.

Everything is manufactured here in the city of Toronto. We are working with a seamstress that is able to do made-to-order manufacturing. Local manufacturing is inherently sustainable by ensuring ethical labour, higher quality and feeding back into our economy.

We are currently using compostable mailers from Wastebased. The mailers are 100% biodegradable and home compostable. Each mailer comes with instructions on how to properly compost the bag. In case you send an item back, all mailers are reusable with a second adhesive strip. Wastebased is offsetting 200% of their total carbon footprint through carbon reduction programs and planting trees.

Our liners come from The Better Packing Co. and are commercially compostable. They are plastic free and are made from commercially compostable adhesive and wood pulp, so they'll only stick around as long as needed.

VUK will be offsetting all our customers shipments with high-quality carbon offsets through Less Emissions. More information on Less Emissions and the projects they are supporting are available at

We encourage all our customers to think about the lifecycle of their clothing. Once you are ready to part ways with an item, consider donating or giving it to a textile recycling program. If items are still wearable, consider donating to centres like Value Village, Salvation Army and your local shelters. For more deteriorated items, accessible textile recycling programs are offered at American Eagle and H&M who have both partnered with I Collect (I:CO). They accept all clothing regardless of brand and condition.

At VUK, we are accepting ALL textile donations which we will collect and drop off to the Markham Textile Recycling Program. This includes scraps, stuffed toys and anything made of fabric. There is no textile you can’t donate!

We know there is always room for improvement, and we are always looking to further our sustainable choices. We are open to all suggestions and are happy to discuss any details of our process with you. Feel free to reach us at !
